Congenital cardiac surgery has developed in leaps and bounds in India in the last decade and a half. With more and more centres treating congenital heart disease and many surgeons taking responsibility of operating on children with complex congenital heart defects, the need was felt to have a stand-alone surgical society to advance training, academics and research and support young surgeons in quest of achieving excellence in this field. With this aim in mind the senior leadership of the field in the country conceived the idea of SPCHS. The society was born on 21 Apr 2018 at the first meeting held at Army Hospital (Research and Referral), New Delhi. The Governing council and the executive committee was formed by common consensus and the by laws and constitution were formulated.

The society was soon registered with an office in Noida. The academic activity soon took off in full swing with meetings held at JP hospital, Noida, CK Birla Hospital Jaipur and Star Hospital Hyderabad. All the meetings had outstanding academic content and were very well attended. As with the rest of the world, the pandemic put a grinding halt to the rapid progress of the society. As the world is recovering from the devastating effect of the pandemic, SPCHS has also revived and reinvented itself and has decided to progress on a combined digital/physical platform. In the coming years we foresee the Society as the main educational/academic /research forum in the field of pediatric cardiac sciences.
